David James Marshall (born March 5, 1985 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish football player in the position of goalkeeper .

Marshall comes from Celtic's youth division in Glasgow. He made his debut on March 25, 2004 in the second leg of the UEFA Cup round of 16 against FC Barcelona at Camp Nou . The then 19-year-old replaced the suspended Robert Douglas and played an excellent game in which he saved a Ronaldinho penalty and helped Celtic advance to the next round. After coach Gordon Strachan signed the Polish goalkeeper Artur Boruc , Marshall's operating times were significantly reduced.

In mid-January 2007 David Marshall was loaned to the English second division club Norwich City in order to get more match practice. The following season, Norwich City definitely took it over. Marshall then played two seasons as a regular goalkeeper for the club from Norwich , but decided after his team was relegated to the third division for a club change. For £ 500,000 transfer fee he moved to Cardiff City and remained in the Football League Championship . He was also able to establish himself as a regular player in Cardiff and narrowly missed promotion to the Premier League with his team after finishing fourth in the 2009/10 season . City had lost the play-off final in Wembley against Blackpool FC with 2: 3.
