David Morris Taylor (born December 5, 1990 in Reno, Nevada ) is an American wrestler . In 2018 he became world champion in free style in the weight class up to 86 kg body weight

Career

David Morris Taylor grew up in the states of Wyoming and Ohio. He attended high school in St. Paris Graham, Ohio, and began wrestling there. As a teenager he was able to achieve his first successes and in 2007 qualified for participation in the Junior World Championships in Beijing. He took 8th place in the free style in the weight class up to 50 kg.

After moving to Pennsylvania State University, he developed into a world-class free-style wrestler under coaches Cael Sanderson and Jeff Jordan over the years. David Taylor, nicknamed "Magic Man", started a career as a student wrestler at the Pennsylvania College Wrestling Club (WC) and won the NCAA welterweight championship in 2012 and 2014. In 2013 he took part in the Universiade (student world games) in Kazan and took third place in welterweight (up to 74 kg body weight) behind Denis Zargusch from Russia and Jabrail Hasanow from Azerbaijan.

David Taylor, who also competes for the Titan Mercury WC / Nittany Lions WC , was unable to qualify for participation in the World Championships or the 2016 Olympic Games in the next few years because he repeatedly competed with Jordan Burroughs , the 2012 Olympic champion and multiple world champion, failed. In the 2016 Olympic qualification, J'den Michael Cox and Kyle Douglas Dake failed in middleweight (up to 86 kg body weight) .

In 2018, however, he made the leap to the top after finally switching to the weight class up to 86 kg. First, in January 2018, he won the prestigious "Ivan Yarigin" Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk in this weight class, ahead of Fatih Erdin , Turkey, Wladislaw Waliev and Artur Naiforow, both from Russia. In May 2018 he became Pan-American Master in Lima in front of Yurieski Torreblanca Queralta from Cuba. In July 2018 he also won the "Yasar Dogu" tournament in Istanbul ahead of Murad Suleimanow, Azerbaijan, Boris Makojew, Slovakia and Fatih Erdin. Then he succeeded in winning the US World Cup qualification tournament (Trials) before Nekc Reenan and Richard Perry.

At the World Championships in Budapest in October 2018, he presented himself in excellent shape in the weight class up to 86 kg. In his first fight there, he defeated the 2016 Olympic champion and defending champion Hassan Yazdani from Iran, whom he safely defeated with 11: 6 points. Then he won over Hadschi Rajabow, Belarus, Yurieski Torreblanca Queralta, Dauren Kurugliew from Russia and Fatih Erdin and became world champion.

David Morris Taylor is also always available for team competitions. On May 15, 2013, he wrestled with the United States team in New York at "The Rumble on the Rails", an event in which the national teams of the United States, Russia and Iran took part. At that time it was about the IOC, which intended to remove wrestling from the program of the Olympic Summer Games, to prove the unity of international wrestling. A project that initially succeeded. David Taylor won this event over Magomed Kurbanaliew from Russia. On May 7, 2014 he was back in the US team, which competed against a world selection in New York. In February 2017 he was part of the US team at the World Cup of the national teams in Kermandshah / Iran.
