David Pabón

David Pabón Figueroa (born June 20, 1964 on the island of Vieques , Puerto Rico ) is a Puerto Rican salsa musician . His songs, often written by Kike Santander , belong to the “Salsa Erótica” or “Salsa Romantica” style.

Life

David Pabón was born in Puerto Rico as one of seven siblings. He learned to play the guitar as a child.

He spent his youth in Bayamón , where he discovered salsa music. He was shaped by contemporary musicians such as Larry Harlow , Willie Colón , Héctor Lavoe , Fania All-Stars , "Richie" Ricardo Ray , Roberto Roena , Ismael Rivera , Rubén Blades , Bobby Valentín , Ray Barretto , Eddie Palmieri , Lalo Rodríguez and others. Pabón accompanied the local radio station Radio Musical for a while with congas and sang to it. At school he founded the El Condór group, which quickly disbanded. In his second volume Union 78 he was already a manager. While performing with the band La Sonica, he met other salsa musicians such as Willie Rosario and Bobby Valentín , who inspired him during his early career. Due to the popularity of the merengue and the lack of opportunities to appear in these bands as a new artist, Pabón hired as a drummer in the band "El Show de Julio Angel y El Trio Los Condes", and revived the old Boleros .

Pabón graduated as an electrical engineer, married, and built his first house. In 1986 he wanted to return to salsa when Gilberto Santa Rosa's “Sin un amor” and “Tú me quemas” by Eddie Santiago set the tone . The salsa was combined with swing elements and Pabón used this fad to get back on track. After there was no engagement in the orchestra of Santarosa, Pabón was hired as a singer with Eddie Santiago. With the song " Aquel viejo motel " Pabón had great success in Latin America and Spain. After that, tours outside of Puerto Rico through Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Mexico came about, and later through the USA and Canada. David Pabón regularly gives concerts in Madison Square Garden / New York City and is a frequent guest at the salsa street festival Calle Ocho in Miami . There he also runs his production company Pabón Entertainment Group LLC.

Pabón is considered cured of alcoholism after stays in rehab clinics .

His biggest hits to date include Aquel viejo motel , Cuando bailas , Por instinto , Ahora tengo ganas , Y nós amamos , Cuando hacemos el amor , Cara dura and Apagame .
