David Raymond Choby (born January 17, 1947 in Nashville , Tennessee , † June 3, 2017 there ) was Bishop of Nashville .

Life

David Choby studied at Aquinas College, Nashville, and St. Ambrose College, Davenport, Iowa, and received his PhD from the Catholic University of America, Washington DC. On September 6, 1974, he received by the Bishop of Nashville, Joseph Aloysius Durick , the ordination . After pastoral work and a study of canon law at the Roman Angelicum , he worked at the diocesan court in the Diocese of Nashville. He also taught at the Pontifical College Josephinum , the only Pontifical College outside Rome in Columbus (Ohio) and was active in its university management.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Nashville on December 20, 2005. The Archbishop of Louisville , Thomas Cajetan Kelly OP , ordained him episcopal on February 27 the next year ; Co- consecrators were James Daniel Niedergeses , Old Bishop of Nashville, and Edward Urban Kmiec , Bishop of Buffalo .
