David Rowe-Beddoe, Baron Rowe-Beddoe
David Sydney Rowe-Beddoe, Baron Rowe-Beddoe (born December 19, 1937 ) is a British politician and life peer who sits as a crossbencher in the House of Lords .
Early life
David Rowe-Beddoe is the son of Sydney Rowe-Beddoe and Dolan Evans.
Rowe-Beddoe went to the Cathedral School in Llandaff in Wales , where he won the Victor Ludorum in 1951. He then went to the Stowe School in Buckingham in England . and studied at St John's College (Cambridge) .
In 1964 he married Malinda Collison and they have three daughters. In 1982 they were divorced. In 1984 he remarried, Madeleine Harrison.
Career
Rowe-Beddoe's career in business began in 1961 with Thomas De La Rue ; he rose there up to CEO , which he was from 1971 to 1976. At Revlon , he served as President for Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa from 1976 to 1981. From 1983 to 1991 he was President of Morgan Stanley .
Rowe-Beddoe became known as a Monaco- based businessman and fundraiser for the Tories when he was promoted to a Welsh quango . Rowe-Beddoe was named chairman of the Welsh Development Agency in July 1993 , an office he held for nine years. He was knighted in 2000 for his commitment to the WDA.
In 2001 Sir David Rowe-Beddoe was appointed Chairman of the Wales Millennium Center , a position he still holds today.
In 2004 he was named President of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama .
In 2005 he was awarded the Beacon Prize for his commitment to economic and social development in Wales.
In 2006 he was promoted to Life Peer as Baron Rowe-Beddoe , of Kilgetty in the County of Dyfed .
In 2007, Lord Rowe-Beddoe became Pro-Chancellor of the University of Glamorgan .
Lord Rowe-Beddoe is Vice Chairman of the UK Statistics Authority .
