David Yurkew

David Allen Yurkew ( August 6, 1943 - May 25, 2007 ) was an American tattoo artist and first president of the North American Tattoo Club .

Life

David Yurkew opened a tattoo parlor in Minneapolis in 1976 . After attending the first official Tattoo Convention from 24. – 25. January 1976 in Houston , which Yurkew organized together with Lyle Tuttle , some tattooists had united to form the North American Tattoo Club, they elected Yurkew as their first president. In the following years, Yurkew himself organized tattoo conventions, such as the 20th anniversary convention in 1996 with Lyle Tuttle in Houston. In addition to being a leader in the tattoo industry, Yurkew also worked as a volunteer firefighter in Blaine and Texas where he was a captain .

family

David Allen Yurkew, son of Anthony Yurkew (1922-2008), was married to Nicky L. Yurkew (1953-2009). Yurkew had three brothers; two of his brothers died in motorcycle accidents, the other brother was killed in a car accident. His only daughter Ramona Marie (1962-1982) was strangled by her boyfriend Craig Bjork. Bjork, aka Craig Dennis Jackson, was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in 1982 for the strangling death of his 19-year-old girlfriend, two young sons Joseph and Jason, and Gwendolyn Johnson, 22. All four bodies were found stuffed under the bed in his Minneapolis apartment .

David Yurkew died in 2007 at the age of 63, his wife two years later, she was only 56 years old.
