David de Paula Gallardo (born May 3, 1984 in Durango ) is a Spanish football player on the position of midfielder .
Career
De Paula began his career with his hometown club SCD Durango in the Basque Country . In 2002 he moved to the youth department of Athletic Bilbao and from 2003 played in the Tercera División for the CD Baskonia farm team . From 2004 he played in the B team of Bilbao, which played in the third division of the Segunda Division B. He was then committed by Alicante FC , where de Paula was active for two seasons and was champion of Segunda División B in the second season. In 2007 he switched to SD Lemona , after which he was active for one season at SD Ponferradina , which he left in 2009 for FC Palencia . After a following season at UD Logroñés , he was signed by a first division club in 2012 after playing in the third Spanish division for eight years. The midfielder moved to Austria for Wolfsberger AC, newly promoted to the Bundesliga .
The Basque made his Bundesliga debut on July 25, 2012 against FK Austria Wien , when he came on in the 68th minute for his Spanish compatriot Jacobo . The game in the Lavanttal Arena was lost 0: 1. His first Bundesliga goal was again on December 8, 2012 against Wiener Austria, when he achieved the 2-2 equalizer in the 3-6 defeat. In 2014 he moved to the Austrian Bundesliga champions FK Austria Wien. He signed a contract for a year and a half until summer 2015 with an option for another year. The parties have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee. After the 2017/18 season he left Austria.
For the 2018/19 season he returned to Spain, where he joined third division club FC Barakaldo .
At European club level de Paula made his debut on July 2, 2005 in the 2nd round of the UI Cup against the representative from Romania CFR Cluj . He was substituted on for David Lizoain in the 83rd minute. The game in Cluj was lost 1-0. Athletic was eliminated after a 4: 5 in the second leg.
