David von Gutmann

David Ritter von Gutmann (born December 2, 1834 in Lipník nad Bečvou , † May 14, 1912 in Baden ) was an Austro-Hungarian entrepreneur in the coal and steel industry .

He founded the Gutmann brothers company with his brother Wilhelm von Gutmann . In 1878 he and his brother were ennobled .

Israelite girls' orphanage on Ruthgasse in Döbling

For many years he was President of the Israelite Alliance in Vienna, founded in 1872 by Joseph Ritter von Wertheimer on the model of the Alliance Israélite Universelle ,   and Chairman of the Baron Hirsch Foundation for the Galician Jewish School System. With his brother Wilhelm he founded the Israelite girls' orphanage on Ruthgasse in Döbling .

He was married to Sophie von Gutmann, born Latzko (1838–1902). He was buried in the Israelite Department of the Central Cemetery at Gate 1 and later reburied in the Döblinger Friedhof .
