David "Davie" Baird (born March 4, 1869 in Edinburgh , † March 19, 1946 ) was a Scottish football player . Playing in the position of striker, Baird was active for Heart of Midlothian for fifteen years and is the only Hearts player in the club's history to win the Scottish Cup three times . In addition to three successes in the cup, he also won two championships with the Hearts.
Career

Davie Baird was born in 1869 in the Scottish capital Edinburgh , in the Silvermills district. In his youth he played for the district club Dalry Primrose. In 1888 he moved to Heart of Midlothian , next to Hibernian Edinburgh largest club in the city. Baird would spend the next 15 years with the Hearts. The Hearts celebrated the greatest successes in the club's history during this period.
In 1891 he reached the final with the Hearts for the first time in the club's history. This was won 1-0 through a goal by Willie Mason against FC Dumbarton . The first Scottish championship in the same year won the FC Dumbarton together with the Glasgow Rangers .
In the 1893/94 season , Baird got the best placement as runner-up behind Celtic Glasgow with the Hearts . The placement was later exceeded with the championship won for the first time .
In the cup season 1895/96 the Hearts secured the second title after 1891 when they beat the rivals of Hibernian in the Edinburgh Derby 3-1 in the final . Baird scored one goal.
In 1897 the second championship was added. His teammate Willie Taylor made the top scorer .
In 1901 the final of the cup was reached for the third time. In the final, Baird's team beat Celtic 4: 3. Two years later, the Hearts lost 2-0 to the Rangers in the second repeat final in 1903 . It was the first final defeat for Hearts in the fourth final after 1891, 1896 and 1901.
After 140 league games and 49 goals, he left Hearts at the end of the 1902/03 season after fifteen years. In the following season he was active for a year for the first division promoted FC Motherwell .
After retiring as a player in 1904, Baird was a director at Heart of Midlothian between 1926 and 1936.
National team
Davie Baird played three times for the Scottish national team between 1890 and 1892 . He made his debut for the Bravehearts on March 29, 1890 in a 4-1 away win over Ireland in Belfast during the British Home Championship 1889/90 . At the end of the tournament, England and Scotland shared the tournament victory.
With the national team he took part in the British Home Championship three times (1889/90, 1890/91 and 1891/92 ).
In his last international match , which took place at Hearts' home stadium, Tynecastle Park , he scored his only goal in the shirt of the Scottish national team against Wales .
