Demo Anthology Winger Live
(2007)

Demo Anthology is a 2007 collection of demo versions recorded by the American rock band Winger for the preparation of their albums Winger , In the Heart of the Young and Pull . In addition to the demos of songs later published on the albums, Demo Anthology also contains several outtakes , i.e. songs that have not become part of the respective music album .

background

After numerous Winger demos from various sources appeared on the Internet, band founder Kip Winger decided to publish all demo recordings in his possession on CD. At the time when the individual songs were written, a demo recording had a lack of quality in Winger's eyes: The musicians were of the opinion that the technical equipment (amplifiers, recording devices) were not good enough to come close to a professional recording, so that all the tracks were in Studio were re-recorded. In essence, existing titles with different technical features were newly recorded.

The demos of the first album were recorded in an office building in New York City, all tracks were written within six months and were written by Reb Beach and Kip Winger. In preparation for the second album, singer and bassist Kip Winger rented a house in Los Angeles , where the entire band worked on their first demos. The track Miles Away, which was written by Paul Taylor and was released as one of the singles from the album In the Heart of the Young and reached number 12 in the US and 56 in the UK , was written in 1986 and by Taylor, Kip Winger and the then Alice Cooper drummer Ken Mary were recorded as demos.

The demos of some tracks that were released on one of the albums are missing on Demo Anthology , for example the demo for Without the Night from the album Winger. This is because Kip Winger does not have these demos. In this case, the respective song was created during the actual recording work for the respective album in the studio, so there is no demo for it.

reception

"Frank's favorite posers have rummaged in their archives and all 36 demo songs that were recorded in the wake of the million-seller" Winger "(1988)," In The Heart Of The Young "(1990) and" Pull "(1993) were recorded on this double CD united. It goes without saying that this collection is only intended for fans who want to understand how the pieces have developed (further) in the studio. Besides sleaze smashers like ´Madelaine´, ´Hungry´, ´Headed For A Heartbreak´ , ´Seventeen´. ´Easy Come Easy Go´, ´Can´t Get Enuff´ or ´Miles Away´ there are also ten (not bad at all) songs to discover that didn't make it onto the regular releases back then. Even if some of the demos are already known in fan circles, this has become an official compilation. "
