background

Winger's self-titled debut album was number 21 on the Billboard 200 and all three singles had hit the Billboard Hot 100; Winger was awarded platinum . The band then went on tour as support for Ozzy Osbourne , the Scorpions and King's X , and another tour with Cinderella and the BulletBoys followed.

In preparation for the second album, singer and bassist Kip Winger rented a house in Benedict Canyon in Los Angeles , where the band worked on their first demos . The track Miles Away, which was written by Paul Taylor and reached number 12 in the US and 56 in Great Britain as one of the singles released , was written in 1986 and by Taylor, Kip Winger and the then Alice Cooper drummer Ken Mary recorded as a demo.

In the Heart for the Young was again by Beau Hill produced . It contained eleven tracks, three of which, Can't Get Enuff, Miles Away and Easy Come, Easy Go were released as singles. The tracks All I Ever Wanted and Never were completed and recorded, but not released on the album.

For the album tour, Paul Taylor was replaced by John Roth. The band toured in the USA with , among others, KISS , Extreme , ZZ Top and Slaughter , in Europe they played the opening act for the Scorpions on their Crazy World tour from November 25, 1990 ( Florence ) to January 26, 1991 ( Gothenburg ) .

reception

In the Heart of the Young reached number 15 on the Billboard 200 in the United States and was awarded a gold record on September 18, 1990 . The album reached platinum status on April 25, 1991.

Frank Albrecht wrote for Rock Hard that Winger plays “typical US commercial metal with a slight blue touch.” The opener 'Can't Get Enuff' follows on “seamlessly where the band's debut left off” : “Robust, not too smoothly produced Metal with catchy refrains ” . Albrecht mentions Miles Away as "writing a sugar-sweet piece of writing that is still not too cheesy" . He also compares Rainbow in the Rose with pieces by Dan Reed Network because of the “pop keyboard and excellent melody lines” and describes In the Day We'll Never See as “an absolute hit, perfectly composed, guaranteed to be a hit single” . Baptized By Fire will be introduced “by a short, original bass solo” , in which Kip Winger proves that “Joey DeMaio is not the measure of all things” . Albrecht concludes with the remark that In the Heart Of The Young is “a successful commercial disc” .
