The Democrat Parti (short name DP ; Turkish for "Democratic Party") is a liberal party in Turkey . It stands for conservative secularism and sees itself as the successor to the Democrat Parti (1946) from the 1940s / 1950s and the Adalet Partisi (AP) by Süleyman Demirel . It is currently represented by one member in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the Turkish Parliament; its deputy was elected from the list of " Alliance of the Nation " of the sister party İyi Parti .

The party logo introduced in 2007 - a horse - is derived from a well-known interrogator of the party name Demokrat Parti . The word democrat was often difficult to pronounce, especially among rural voters, and was corrupted into "iron white horse" (Demir Kırat) . Until May 2007 the party was called Doğru Yol Partisi (DYP).

history

Party headquarters of Milas

The DYP adopted the traditional name Democrat Parti to join forces with the Anavatan Partisi (ANAP) for the 2007 parliamentary election . However, the alliance failed shortly before the deadline. The ANAP then decided not to take part in the election, the DYP entered under the new name DP, but failed at the 10 percent hurdle. Mehmet Ağar announced during the vote count (July 22, 2007) that he was stepping down from his post as party leader.

A party congress was held on May 17, 2009. It was hüsamettin cindoruk elected in the third round of voting the chairman of the party. On October 31, 2009, the ANAP finally merged with the DP. However, both the DYP and the ANAP were newly founded.

On January 16, 2011, a party congress took place in the Ataturk Sports Hall in Ankara, where Namık Kemal Zeybek was elected as the new party chairman with 566 votes . Since the party under the top candidate Zeybek only won 0.65% of the votes in the parliamentary elections on July 12, 2011 , another congress took place on May 6, 2012, where Gültekin Uysal was elected as the new party leader.
