The Alliance of the Nation ( Turkish Millet İttifakı ) is an electoral alliance founded in May 2018 , which began with the presidential and parliamentary elections in June 2018 and exists between the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Good Party (İYİ) . The alliance is intended to be a continuation of the cooperation between those who campaigned against a presidential system in the 2017 referendum and subsequently ensure a further joint approach.

Elections 2018

The aim of the 2018 parliamentary elections was to put up certain candidates from parties in provinces and districts with a higher chance of getting a seat in parliament in order to achieve a majority in parliament. By participating in this alliance, the DP and the SP wanted to “bring back” their voters, who would otherwise vote for other parties (whose “skipping” clause is certain; especially the AKP ) due to the threshold clause of ten percent . In addition, the alliance was supported by the Democracy Sol Parti .

The Party of Happiness brought two candidates into parliament via the CHP's electoral lists, who switched to their actual party after being sworn in. The leader of the Democratic Party did the same through the İyi Party.

In the case of the presidential elections taking place at the same time, however, each party should nominate its own candidate in the first round (with the DP supporting Akşener ), thus maximizing the chance of a runoff in which the opposition candidate would have the support of all parties (whereby it there was no runoff election).

Local elections 2019

The CHP and İYİ agreed on a further alliance in the run-up to the local elections on March 31, 2019 . As a result, İYİ in cities like İstanbul , Ankara and İzmir will not put up their own candidates for the office of Lord Mayor and thus support the CHP. For its part, the CHP has decided not to have its own candidates in Balıkesir , Trabzon and Denizli , among others . There is also a common candidate in the constituencies of many cities. A total of 51 cities / provinces agreed to work together.

CHP and İYİ managed to win the office of mayor in four of the five largest cities in the country (Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Adana ).
