Denis Alexandrovich Korolev

Denis Alexandrowitsch Koroljow ( Russian Денис Александрович Королёв ), also: Denis Korolev ; (Born December 24, 1938 in Moscow ) is a Russian opera singer ( tenor ). For many years he was a soloist at the Bolshoi Theater .

Life

Korolev graduated from 1958 to 1965 with a vocal study at the Moscow State P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory with GI Titz (Tits). During his studies, 1964–1965, he made his debut as Lenski in the opera Eugene Onegin at the Stanislavsky Theater in Moscow . As a soloist in the Stanislavsky and Nemirowitsch Danchenko Music Theater , he also sang Len'ka in the opera Im Sturm by Tichon Nikolajewitsch Chrennikow , Pavka in the opera Die Familie von Taras by Dmitri Borissowitsch Kabalewski and Ferrando in Così fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart .

In 1964 he appeared for the first time at the Bolshoi Theater, also with the role of Lensky. His partner in the title role of Eugene Onegin was the People's Artist of the USSR Georg Ots . In the following years this part was one of the best in Korolev's repertoire. In 1965 he received a beginner's contract as a "learner singer" (стажер) at the Bolshoi Theater. Later he was permanently engaged there as a lyric tenor for many years .

Korolev took part in guest performances both in the USSR and abroad: among others in France , in the GDR , in the FRG , in Austria , Bulgaria , Romania and Poland . His most successful appearances were during the guest performance of the Bolshoi Theater in the USA (1975), where he appeared with the roles of the Marquis in The Gambler , as Anatol Kuragin, as Lensky and as a fool of God.

Prizes and awards

  • 1966: 1st prize at the ARD international music competition , singing category
  • 1967: 2nd prize in the international competition “Franz Schubert and the 20th Century” in Vienna
  • 1976: "Honored Artist of the RSFSR"

Voice and sound documents

Among the vocal virtues of the singer, the critics highlighted a wide vocal range, which allowed Korolev to get tessiturale difficulties with ease, being able to freely overcome not only the overtones, but also the undertones difficult to access for tenors. He had a "lyrical tenor of extraordinary euphony, which could mean a great honor for any opera theater".

Koroljow also recorded songs by the following composers: Michail Glinka , PI Tschajkovskij, Sergej Rachmaninow , Georgi Svididov , Franz Schubert . In addition, the arias of Rudolf, Lenski and Herzog - conductors BE Hajkin and Gennady Nikolayevich Roschdestvensky ; also Alescha Popovitsch in Dobrynja Nikitisch by Catterino Cavos , conductor Gennadi Nikolajewitsch Roschdestwenski. The company " Melodija " produced all recordings in the 1960–1970s.
