The Tafí del Valle department is located in the northwest of the Tucumán Province in northwest Argentina and is one of 17 administrative units in the province. It borders the province of Salta to the north, the departments of Trancas , Tafí Viejo , Lules and Famaillá to the east, the department of Monteros to the south and the province of Catamarca to the west .
geography
Practically the entire department of Tafí del Valle is mountainous and is dominated by two large valleys, the Valle de Tafí and the Valle de Yocavil . The latter belongs to the Valles Calchaquíes .
population
According to the last census, the Tafí del Valle department has 13,883 inhabitants ( INDEC , 2001). An estimate by INDEC from 2005 shows an increase to 16,149 inhabitants.
