The film was produced by the Berlin company Express-Films Co. GmbH and shot in the Dreisamtal . In addition to the brothers Georg and Adolf Faßnacht, who toured many countries in Central Europe with their touring theater since the end of the 19th century, the film also features many extras from Freiburg im Breisgau and the surrounding area.
The film premiered in Portugal on March 28, 1923 and was released in the United States in 1928 . In the 1990s, the film was restored by the Federal Archives' film archive . On March 30, 2012 the film was shown in Neustädter Münster and accompanied on the organ by church music director Volker Linz .
