The Dreisamtal is a valley east of the city of Freiburg im Breisgau in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park in Baden-Württemberg (Germany).

The eponymous river flows through the Dreisam valley, which was formed by sediment deposits from the flowing streams that merge to form the Dreisam . The flat valley floor is partly a water protection area .

Geographical location

The Dreisamtal extends a few kilometers east of Freiburg, where it widens to form a broad, flat valley floor, the Zartener Basin . The main town of the valley is Kirchzarten with the district Zarten, a settlement of Celtic origin ( Tarodunum ). Other places are Stegen , where the Eschbachtal flows from St. Peter , Buchenbach , where the Wagensteig valley coming from St. Märgen and the Höllental coming from Hinterzarten flow, and Oberried , where the Oberrieder valley flows from the Notschrei . The Freiburg districts of Kappel , Ebnet and Littenweiler also belong to the Dreisamtal.

traffic

The B 31 and the Höllentalbahn , both of which lead from Freiburg into the Black Forest, run through the Dreisamtal .

tourism

The Dreisamtal is known to many tourists mainly for its hiking and mountain bike trails through the Black Forest. The proximity to Freiburg im Breisgau and the proximity to the neighboring Alsace make the Dreisamtal a popular destination. The Schauinsland and Feldberg , the highest mountain in the Black Forest, are easily accessible from the valley .

The four municipalities of Kirchzarten, Stegen, Buchenbach and Oberried have come together to promote the Dreisamtal as a tourist attraction.

Landscape protection

Parts of the Dreisamtal are designated as a landscape protection area, from the eastern Freiburg city limits to Buchenbach between the lower reaches of the Wagensteigbach and the lower reaches of the Rotbach .
