Differences from the book

  • Sir Henry is from Canada, not the United States
  • Dr. Mortimer is not present at the showdown with the dog; in his place is in the novel Inspector Lestrade
  • Dr. Mortimer is absent when Watson locates Holmes on the moor
  • Selden was not operated on the brain like in this film

budget

The budget for the film suffered significantly from the fact that the previous films in the series Silverblaze and The Devil's Foot had been too much spent. "The Dog of Baskerville" was filmed on a much lower budget, which later led producer Michael Cox to say that he now regrets that he has cut down on the "dog" of all things and so did not make the "dog of their dreams" to have.

DVD

The film was released in 2004 by Polyband as a single DVD in the series The Sherlock Holmes Edition , which also contains the four other feature-length films in the Granada series. An audio commentary by Sherlock Holmes researcher Michael Ross is available as an extra.
