content
In five chapters, the film tells the return of a fictional Argentine Nobel Prize winner for literature to his remote home village. Although he has lived in Europe for decades and never visited Argentina during this time, he owes his success to his homeland, as his literary work only uses impressions from life in the remote pampas . Contrary to his habit of canceling social obligations, he accepts the invitation of the local mayor and is awarded an honorary citizen. He then gives an interview to the local television channel, makes himself available as a member of the jury at an art award ceremony and takes part in other social events. So he increasingly comes into conflict with the locals, who on the one hand present him with a carved armadillo, a football jersey and other useless things and on the other hand despise him as a spoiled cultural tourist.
One of his friends is married to the childhood friend of the later honorary citizen. Their daughter seeks contact with him, which further intensifies the conflict. Ultimately, the drama is resolved as if the writer had processed the home trip into a new successful novel.
