The devil knows no hallelujah , Trinity strikes back too (original title: La collera del vento ), is an Italian - Spanish coproduction by the director Mario Camus from 1970 .

action

In Andalusia in the late 19th century, the professional killers Marco and his half-brother Jacobo are hired by the wealthy and despotic farmer and landowner Don Antonio, whose exploited day laborers have started to fight for better working conditions. Marco and Jacobo are supposed to kill the ringleaders of the uprising. The first victim, however, was not the expected gunslinger , but a political speaker who roused the fight for freedom and justice.

In view of the brutal harshness with which Don Antonio suppressed the farm workers, but also because of a liaison with the tavern operator Soledad, Marco takes the side of the farmers who are struggling for a better life. Finally he decides to change sides and gets into an argument with Jacobo, who as an ice-cold professional killer wants to finish the well-paid job. However, when Jacobo is shot dead by Don Antonio's gang as an accomplice after another contract murder, Marco swears bloody revenge. He kills Don Antonio's two sons one after the other and destroys his fields, but in the end he is shot by two other hit men in the moving train on the way home.

criticism

The lexicon of international films saw a "(s) carefully crafted spaghetti western that tries to critically note social positions and dependencies, but largely unreflectively identifies violence as a natural part of social relationships."

background

The final scene of the film, and with it the death of Marco, was cut out for the showing in Italy. The producers feared that the audience would not accept the film without a happy ending .
