The 2005 thriller The Zodiac Killer tells of a real, to this day unsolved series of murders, mostly of young couples, and their killer, the Zodiac Killer , which took place in the late 1960s and 1970s.
action
In December 1968, Mary Boucher and her friend Michael Newman were shot dead in Vallejo , California . The young inspector Matt Parrish is assigned to the case, who despite his best efforts cannot deliver a suspect.
When the next murder of the young Gina Chambers happened in June 1969 , Matt did everything in his power to bring the killer down, even if his overzealous family life suffers as a result. Matt's twelve-year-old son Johnny tries in his own way to catch the perpetrator and, like his father, devotes himself to the crime with a love of detail. The boy collects newspaper reports and tries to understand the perpetrator's psyche.
The murderer, who soon after called himself a Zodiac killer , sends letters of confession to newspapers and threatens further murders in the greater Vallejo area. He also sends a strange code with the letters, behind the decryption of which is the identity of the criminal. But the code turns out to be a trap.
Matt Parrish , who tries to arrest a suspect in late 1969 against the instructions of his superior Frank Perkins, but who turns out to be innocent, is suspended from duty.
The film ends with the insert that the Zodiac killer , who has committed 37 murders to date, has not yet been caught.
