action

From Berlin Coming turns a truck of the GDR - forwarding VEB Deutrans on Schönefelder cross towards Polish People's Republic from. At the steering wheel of the Volvo F89 is the driver Hans Hoffmann, who is fulfilling a ten-year-old wish of his 16-year-old daughter Regina with this drive. Because that's how long her request to accompany her father on a long-distance journey lasts. She always imagined a trip like this in bright colors, although she kept hearing that she shouldn't expect too much from it, because it is work and not a vacation.

Now there is still an hour's drive to the border, plus the time at the border crossing of about half an hour and then in Poland you have to plan another three hours to the destination. Regina's father, a trained carpenter, has been a truck driver for over 25 years and drives to many countries. He has also transported almost everything, such as milk cartons, wood, trainers, machine parts, camping furniture and even live turtles. Hans Hoffmann has traveled from Belgium to the Soviet Union and from the People's Republic of Bulgaria to Scandinavia . Today they are on their way to pick up fresh strawberries. Regina says it looks almost like in the GDR, only the place name signs are different, because when you read the names, you almost get a knot in your tongue. With every kilometer she drives, Regina tries to put herself in her father's shoes and slowly understands why he doesn't want to pursue any other profession. But she also realizes that such a trip is very exhausting and there are no opportunities to take a closer look at the many villages.

They have finally arrived at their destination, a small village. Since Hans Hoffmann has already been here several times, the formal things don't take up much time and he can rest while the semi-trailer is loaded with the strawberry baskets by hand. Although the height of the trailer cannot be used to the full, as otherwise the lower baskets would be crushed by the weight, loading takes late into the night. On the way back Regina lies in the bed in the driver's cab and lets the previous day pass by again. In the yard where the strawberries were loaded, she is immediately greeted by a dog and then she meets Janek, who works here as a tractor driver during the holidays . He got Regina's address and also promised to write to her. When father and daughter arrive back in the GDR, the bright day has already dawned again and Regina realizes that this trip was an adventure for her, although she had imagined the trip to be more exciting. In any case, she comes to the conclusion that the job of a truck driver is not for her after all.
