content

The film sheds light on the persecution of the Jewish population after Hitler came to power and tries to find answers to the working hypothetical question of why there was so little popular resistance. Hildebrandt reports on selfless attempts by Jewish people to resist the Nazis and shows pictures of the so-called Reichskristallnacht . The film also deals with the apparently peaceful conditions in the Warsaw Ghetto from 1940 until the uprising in spring 1943 .

Reviews

The lexicon of international films judged: "The authenticity of the images in connection with the historical background and environment as well as its intelligent and impressive presentation give the film a high information value that triggers more than just consternation."

At the Duisburg Film Week 1981, the film was judged rather negatively by the audience.
