Jüngste Tag was a series of brochures that was published from 1913 to 1921 in Leipzig (and from 1919 in Munich ) by the publisher Kurt Wolff and his editors Franz Werfel and Max Brod . It was intended to be a forum for new poetry and over time it became one of the most important publication sites for expressionist literature .

In the group consisting of a total of 86 volumes series published, among others, Johannes R. Becher , Gottfried Benn , Paul Boldt , Kasimir Edschmid , Albert Ehrenstein , Carl Ehrenstein , Ivan Goll , Martin Gumpert , Ferdinand Hardekopf , Walter Hasenclever , Emmy Hennings , Franz Jung , Franz Kafka , Bohuslav Kokoschka , Oskar Kokoschka , Gottfried Kölwel , Otfried Krzyzanowski ,Rudolf Leonhard , Ernst Wilhelm Lotz , Mynona , Hans Reimann , Eugen Roth , Ludwig Rubiner , Ruth Schaumann , René Schickele , Marcel Schwob , Hans Siemsen , Carl Sternheim , Ernst Toller , Georg Trakl , Johannes Urzidil and Berthold Viertel as well as Max Brod and Franz Werfel .

Franz Werfel described the program of the series in the first brochure from 1913 as follows:

"The new poet will definitely be, start from scratch, for him there is no reminiscence , because he, like no one else, will feel how insubstantial the retrospective on literature is."
