action
Stella Hirth, the wife of the significantly older lawyer Dr. Hirth discovers a dead person in her bedroom after a soirée that she had given in the absence of her husband. It is about a certain Kardosch, as we shall see later. Fearing that her returning husband, whom she loves very much, might draw the wrong conclusions and believe that the corpse is a hitherto unknown lover, she pulls the murdered aside with her own hands. Stella is now under suspicion of murder, as it soon turns out that she had once been engaged to the seedy dead man.
He had tried to blackmail Stella with this secret and, if she did not comply with his demands, to her husband Dr. Approach Hirth. Stella swears to her husband that she did not murder her former boyfriend. When the perpetrator is later determined, Dr. Hirth their defense. In this way, the lawyer learns about the circumstances that caused his wife to be involved in the case. Now he accepts exactly what Stella wanted to save him from: namely that he has to assume that Kardosch was her still-forever lover. Hirth's now aroused suspicion leads to the fact that both marriage is in serious danger, especially since Stella also maintains close (but platonic) contact with the architect Reinhold.

Reviews
In the mirror it was said: “An entertainment film whisked up with a minor murder under the exclusion of probability (corpse: Albin Skoda). Small-town marriage drama between a graying lawyer and a young dancer (Gisela Uhlen), whose triangular relationship with a noble architect (Curd Jürgens) remains platonic. A silent comeback for Oskar Homolka after 18 successful years abroad. "
The lexicon of the international film judges: “The platonic relationship between his young wife and a noble architect triggers a crisis of confidence in an older lawyer. Small-town marriage drama with a criminalist element without any claim to logic or psychological credibility. "
