Derek Ball

Derek Ball (born 1930 in Islington , London , † July 26, 1988 in Berkshire ) was a British sound engineer .

Life

Ball began his career in the film business in the late 1960s. His first film as a sound engineer was the war drama events in guarding the Bofors gun from Jack Gold 1968. After contributing to Hollywood productions like Papillon and roller ball he received in 1978 together with Don MacDougall , Ray West and Bob Minkler the Oscar in the category Best Sound for Star Wars . Ball was absent at the award ceremony. He was also nominated four times for the BAFTA Film Award , one of which he won (for Star Wars ). Between 1981 and 1987 he also worked on three James Bond films; James Bond 007 - On a Deadly Mission , James Bond 007 - In the Face of Death and James Bond 007 - The Living Daylights . He died in July 1988.
