Saturn City (Original title: Saturn 3 ) is a British science fiction film directed by Stanley Donen from 1980 .

action

The explorers Alex and Adam live on Saturn's moon Tethys . At the Saturn 3 station there , they have been looking for ways to combat the food shortage on earth for three years. Since their work is progressing slowly, one of the two is to be replaced by a robot from the new "demigod" series. The Captain James, originally intended for delivery and assembly, is killed by the mentally unstable Captain Benson shortly before departure. Benson lands on Tethys and begins assembling the robot Hector. He bluntly declares sexual interest in Alex, but is rejected. Contact with earth is not possible for 22 days because of the ecliptic . When Hector, who can develop a kind of consciousness with real brain tissue, is fully assembled, Benson begins to program him via a neural interface in his neck. After some initial small successes, the situation quickly escalated when Hector injured Alex's arm. Obviously, Hector has taken over from Benson's interest in Alex. The robot is dismantled after a short battle, but can, unnoticed by the crew, be reassembled with the help of two auxiliary robots. When he appears surprisingly, he cuts off one of Benson's hand and drags him with him. Alex and Adam trap Hector by removing trays from a sewer basin; Hector, however, can see through the plan. Nevertheless, Adam manages to push Hector into the pool with a crane.

The couple want to flee on Benson's ship. However, Hector, who was able to free himself from the sewer basin, detonates it beforehand. The two entrench themselves in the communication room when suddenly Benson, who was thought to be dead, appears on the monitors. Hector has taken over Benson's consciousness and now speaks in his voice and puts the couple to sleep. When Tethys emerges from the Saturne ecliptic, Hector is able to repel an approaching reconnaissance ship by speaking in Alex and Adam's voice. In the meantime, Hector has implanted the same neural interface in Adam that Benson already had. When Adam notices this, he plots to kill Hector with a suicide attack . He attaches two explosive charges to his body and when Hector tries to reprogram Adam via the interface, Adam knocks Hector over so that both fall into the sewage basin and detonates the explosive charges. The last shots of the film show Alex on the way to earth, where she has never been before.
