Ray West

George Raymond "Ray" West (born November 29, 1925 in Detroit , Michigan , † February 17, 2016 in Santa Barbara , California ) was an American sound engineer who received the Oscar for best sound in addition to nominations for various awards .

Life

One of the first films in which Ray West was involved as a sound engineer was A Boiled Rascal in 1977. In the same year West worked on the science fiction film Star Wars by George Lucas , for which he and Don MacDougall , Bob Minkler and Derek Ball received an Oscar in the “ Best Sound ” category, as well as the BAFTA Award in this category. In 1979 he received the Emmy for his work as a sound engineer on the television film We Fly on the Wind , a success that he repeated in 1987 with the cause of death - Agent Orange . In total, West received ten other Emmy nominations for his more than 70 participations in cinema and television productions. West worked on Star Wars , among others, two films of the Star Trek series, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock , the film drama The Mask , but also on some television series, like the fourth season of the crime series Miami Vice . Most recently, West worked as a mixer on the 1993 action film Sniper .
