Exhibition design
The focus is not on individual objects, but, like in a cabinet of curiosities, their arrangement and combination, which should surprise and arouse associations. The setting of the light and the connection of the objects with the different rooms aim to create a large, walk-in work of art.
There are no signs or descriptions on the exhibits that are familiar from other museums or galleries. The exhibition aims to emphasize the interaction of the forms and the often surreally reinterpreted functions of the objects, which due to their age often appear strange to the viewer.
history
The museum goes back to Korneev's collection of rare useful objects from different centuries. During his employment as first assistant to Werner Bokelberg in Hamburg , he began to look for unusual props for his photographs. Originally there was a shop-museum of the same name in Schwerin on the market under Korneev's direction. On November 4, 2010, he finally opened the Designpanoptikum at Torstrasse 201. In 2017, Korneev's ever-growing collection moved to a larger exhibition area at Poststrasse 7, Nikolaiviertel , where it can currently be viewed .
