Detlev Foth (born September 17, 1959 in Münster ) is a German painter. He lives and works in Düsseldorf .

life and work

In 1978 he worked with the Düsseldorf painter and sculptor Kurt Link .

He studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1979 to 1985 with Luise Kimme , Rolf Sackenheim , Walter Biemel , Tony Cragg and became a master student of Rissa . During the second semester, his first solo exhibition took place in the Galeria de Arte Sala Goya on Palma de Mallorca, Spain. In 2001 he received an invitation from the Foreign Office in Berlin to hold a solo exhibition at the German Business Club in São Paulo , Brazil . He was the first German artist to have a solo exhibition at the Portuguese cultural institute ( Instituto Camões ) in Luanda , Angola , which was realized at the invitation of the Foreign Office, Berlin. In 2012 the painter had a solo exhibition in the Arthropologie Gallery, Cairo , Egypt .

His works are in private collections and in public spaces: Revin State Gallery, France; Heinrich Heine Institute, Düsseldorf (portrait of Heinrich Heine ); Suhrkamp-Verlag, Frankfurt (portrait Thomas Bernhard ); TÜV Rheinland, Cologne; City of Hilden (portrait Otto Goldhorn); University of Opole, Poland ( The fish haul , portrait John Lennon , portrait Pope John Paul II ).

In addition to painting, Detlev Foth deals with literature and has published numerous plays, novels, short stories and poems. He comments on the current art market for the art magazine Kunstbar Contemporary Art.

Foth is included in the General Artist Lexicon (Volume 42, Munich-Leipzig, 2004). It is also listed in Kürschner's Handbook of Fine Artists (2006).

Since 2003 he has lived and worked with his wife, the artist Ioana Luca, in Düsseldorf and Iași , Romania .
