Dettelbacher Honigberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dettelbacher Honigberg is a single and large-scale vineyard in the Franconian region . As a large site, it encompasses parts of the Volkacher Mainschleife area at the Maindreieck and, as a single site, also forms the name for the wine grown in the Dettelbacher districts of Bibergau and Mainsondheim .

Geographical location and geology

The large site extends largely north and south of Dettelbach , with the individual Sonnenleite site in particular being characterized by several, non-contiguous and small vineyards. These stretch in the north of Schnepfenbach along the Dettel brook and in the west from the so-called Doktorsmühle along the Bibergauer Mühlbach to the town of Dettelbach itself, with most of the vines already growing immediately north of the Dettelbacher Stadtpfarrkirche . To the west and south of the city along the Main , those of the Berg-Rondell grow.

Overall, the large site covers an area of over 150 ha, with the eponymous single site Honigberg having the smallest share of this area. In terms of nature, the vineyards are assigned to the main units of the Inner Gauch Plateau in the Main Triangle and the Middle Main Valley . The vines of all individual layers grow on soils of the Upper Muschelkalks and the Lettenkeuper. In the areas further away from the Main in the north of the large area, loess loam and drifting sands also form the subsoil. Müller-Thurgau can be considered the main grape variety.

Origin of name

The origin of the name Honigberg is unclear. In contrast to the other large locations in the area, there was no old corridor named Honigberg. The Honigberg also does not form a historical center for the places in the area. It is probably a reinvention of the 1970s and the name alludes to the sweetness of the wine grown here. Honey is also a main ingredient for the Dettelbacher Muskatzine , which is a regional specialty.

winery

The only winery that markets its wine under the name of the single location Honigberg is the Schinhammer winery in Bibergau. The vineyards that the Honigberg encompasses as a single layer are not known, but only a few areas in the far east of the Bibergauer district are planted with vines.

Vineyards in the major area of Honigberg

The list of vineyards is based on a list of all Bavarian vineyards, which was published by the government of Lower Franconia . It is arranged alphabetically. The markings on which the vineyard can be found are noted in the second column. The areas of the vineyards are also listed. The nature of the soil and its predominant composition can be seen in the geology column . Notes contain important historical key points on the individual locations.

The Dettelbacher Honigberg has a total of three individual layers. Many locations stretch over several districts, with the vines often concentrating on one district (example Dettelbacher Berg-Rondell, Mainstockheimer Berg-Rondell). The Sonnenleite vineyard is particularly split, stretching north along the Dettel brook from the Dettelbacher Altort. The geographic coordinate refers to the largest part of the respective location.
