Germany maintains a liaison office of the German Embassy in Pretoria in neighboring South Africa in the Swaziland capital Mbabane and is in dialogue with Swaziland on development issues and human rights . Swaziland has a consulate in Berlin and Düsseldorf .

Economic relationships

Little importance is attached to the economic relations between the two states.

King Mswati III ordered eight 1,986 Mercedes - limousine with gold-plated license plates for his personal fleet, which by airfreight from Germany were flown.

Development Assistance

So far, Germany has provided development aid in the areas of agriculture, power generation and distribution, the renovation of the Matsapha industrial park near Manzini , in rural health care and in commercial-technical training. Between 1968 and 2000 it provided Swaziland with a total of 112.5 million euros in development aid. Of this, 59.8 million euros went to financial cooperation and 32.2 million euros to technical cooperation. 9.7 million euros went to churches, foundations and private sponsors. 3.1 million euros were used for scholarships and 7.7 million euros for food aid, among other things.

The direct support was then discontinued because Swaziland had been classified as a “ lower middle income country ” according to World Bank figures . However, the country continues to benefit from funds from Germany through the European Union and the European Development Fund. In addition, individual projects are financed by the German Embassy. In 2012, for example, a total of 80,000 euros was invested in the expansion of the classrooms at Fonteyn High School and the Mphetseni Primary School , and a women's handicraft project in Nthutwakazi was funded, which enables the women involved to sell their products independently.

In 2013, the purchase of water tanks, water pipes and a fence for the Nkomazi Community Garden Project in the Nkomazi River basin was financed with 9,300 euros.

In 2014, the German embassy sponsored three projects with a total of around 360,000 Emalangeni : 143,434 Emalangeni were spent on the construction of an administration building for the Manzini Athletics Club in Manzini and the Bambani Bomake Orphanaid Project organization in Siteki received 120,024.31 Emalangeni for the purchase of material for the production of Soap and the continuation of their program for AIDS sufferers and disabled people. For the ACM Primary School in Ntunja , 95,376 Emalangeni were spent to erect a fence around the school premises.

Diplomatic exchange

The King of Swaziland Mswati III. paid an official visit to several German federal states in April 2000 in order to attract German investments to his country. In November 2006, a delegation from Swaziland headed by then Prime Minister Absalom Themba Dlamini visited the Federal Republic of Germany. In the spring of 2007, Mswati III traveled. privately to Germany.

Former Justice Minister Herta Däubler-Gmelin was visiting Swaziland in September 2013. The then Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid Christoph Strässer (SPD) visited the country in November 2014 to find out about the domestic political situation.
