The German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (abbreviation: DGPRÄC ) is a professional association and the scientific specialist society for plastic surgeons in Germany based in Berlin . The DGPRÄC was founded on October 16, 1968 in Bochum under the name "Association of German Plastic Surgeons" (VDPC), which was adapted in 2005. Members of the DGPRÄC are exclusively specialists in plastic surgery or plastic and aesthetic surgery .

tasks

The "temple" of plastic surgery

The DGPRÄC represents the scientific and professional interests of plastic surgery in Germany. All areas of plastic surgery, the so-called "four pillars" are represented: reconstructive surgery, hand surgery, aesthetic surgery and burn surgery. Research on plastic surgery occupies a large space within society in the form of guidelines and committee work. The next generation is also promoted (e.g. through internal advanced training seminars). The DGPRÄC supports the concerns of the medical profession in Germany through its membership in the umbrella association of specialists in Germany (SpiFa).

membership

Only doctors who have a “specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery” (or “specialist in plastic surgery”) can become full members of the DGPRÄC. Associate membership is open to doctors who are still in the six-year advanced training course.

history

The advances in plastic surgery after 1945 led to the establishment of plastic surgery departments and centers in Germany as well. In 1955 the "Working Group for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery" of the German Society for Surgery (DGCH) was established in Munich. In 1961 this was converted into a separate “Section for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery”. At its World Congress for Plastic Surgery, however, the "International Confederation for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery" (ICPRS, today IPRAS) did not accept the Section in 1963 as a German interest group. For this reason the "German Society for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery" (DGPW) was founded, which accepted medical professionals from all areas.

In 1968 a group of surgeons left the DGPW - with the aim of anchoring plastic surgery in Germany as an independent “mono-specialty” with further training and examination. On October 16, 1968, eleven founding members launched the “Association of German Plastic Surgeons” (VDPC) in Bochum as a new scientific society and professional association at the same time. In 1978 plastic surgery was recognized as an official branch of surgery, which required an additional two-year training course. In 1979, the VDPC was recognized as the official national representative of German plastic surgery at the 7th ICPRS International Congress in Rio de Janeiro. In 1992, the German Medical Association in Cologne created the area designation “Plastic Surgery”. This introduced the “specialist in plastic surgery”. At the German Medical Congress in 2004, the name of the specialist was renamed “Specialist for plastic and aesthetic surgery”.

In 2005 the VDPC was also given a new name: German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (DGPRÄC).

Board

The board of the DGPRÄC consists of the president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. The extended board includes the representatives of the individual professional groups (leading hospital doctors, resident, university-active plastic and aesthetic surgeons, associated members), the heads of the departments (reconstruction / microsurgery, burns, aesthetics, hand surgery) and representatives in the neighboring companies ( German Society for Surgery , Professional Association of German Surgeons , German Society for Senology ) and the Past President . The president and vice-president are elected for two years, the treasurer and secretary for three years. The general meeting usually takes place twice a year, during the congress of the German Society for Surgery and during the joint annual meeting of the DGPRÄC with its subsidiary VDÄPC.
