Devante Lavon Andrew Cole (born May 10, 1995 in Alderley Edge ) is an English football player who is under contract with Wigan Athletic .

Career

Devante Cole was born in 1995 in Alderley Edge about 20 km south of Manchester to professional footballer Andy Cole . His father was playing for Manchester United at the time . Devante played from the age of seven in the youth teams of arch-rivals Manchester City . He received his first appearances in the professional team in preparation for the 2013/14 season when he played against the South African club SuperSport United , among others . For the Citizens U19 he scored six goals in the 2013/14 UEFA Youth League, finishing second behind the Spaniard Munir in the competition.

In August 2014, the 19-year-old Cole was loaned to the English third division club FC Barnsley . Here he made his professional debut against Coventry City on August 19, 2014 . He scored his first goal four days later against Gillingham FC . By the end of the year, Cole had scored five goals in 19 league games for Barnsley.

As of January 2015, Cole was further awarded to Milton Keynes Dons . Here he met in the second half of the 2014/15 season in 15 games three times, including twice against Crewe Alexandra on January 31, 2015. The Dons rose at the end of the season as the runner-up club behind Bristol City in the 2nd division.

In August 2015, the striker signed with Bradford City after leaving Manchester. On his debut in Bradford's shirt, he scored the winning goal in stoppage time in a 1-0 win over Port Vale . In his first nine league games, he scored five times. In January 2016, he moved to league rivals Fleetwood Town for a transfer fee . For the next two years, Cole was under contract at Fleetwood. He scored 17 times in 77 games. In the promotion play-offs of the 2016/17 season lost to Bradford City.

In January 2018, Wigan Athletic signed him. Wigan had been relegated from the second division a year earlier. Cole only started working for the club from March 2018. He remained goalless in six games. Wigan rose again as champions of the third division 2017/18 season . In August 2018, Wigan loaned him back to the third division to Burton Albion for half a year . After he had not made any further use for the Latics after his return from loan, he was loaned out to Motherwell FC in Scotland for six months from August 2019 .
