Diamond way

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German word Diamantweg is a loan transfer of the Sanskrit term vajrayāna ( vajra means diamond, yāna means path or vehicle). The term Diamond Way is mainly used in German-speaking countries for the Diamond Way Centers founded by Ole Nydahl , whose teaching presentation is called Diamond Way Buddhism .

The other schools of Tibetan Buddhism that belong to Vajrayana use the Sanskrit term vajrayāna or the terms vajra vehicle, diamond vehicle.

Organization of the Diamond Way Centers

The Diamond Way centers in Germany in the Buddhist umbrella organization Diamond (BDD, former. Karma Kagyu umbrella organization KKD) in Austria in conjunction Karma Kagyu Diamond Way (formerly. Karma Kagyu Austria KKÖ) in Switzerland in conjunction Kagyu lineage Switzerland Karma together .

On June 17, 2019, the Diamond Way left the umbrella organization of the German Buddhist Union in order to anticipate an exclusion process. This ended a long-smoldering dispute between the German Buddhist Union and the Diamond Way. The DBU delegate and theologian Frank Hendrik Hortz justified the exclusion procedure with the fact that Nydahl not only railed "massively and across the board against Muslims", but that other ethnic groups, Asians and Africans were also the target of his hatred. According to Hortz, Nydahl met the Dutch right-wing populist Geert Wilders and Danish right-wing populists.

The Austrian association is a member of the Austrian Buddhist Religious Society  (ÖBR), the legally recognized religious society of Buddhism in Austria .

The Diamond Way Centers refer to the 16th Karmapa and belong to the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. They consider Thaye Dorje to be the 17th Karmapa. Around the world, around 679 centers and groups belong to this network, around 160 of them in Germany (as of 2017). In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the Diamond Way Centers are united to form associations which are members of the respective umbrella organizations of all Buddhist communities ( DBU , SBU and ÖBR ).

Since the beginning of 2019, several delegates of the DBU have been demanding the BDD committee from the DBU. You criticize Ole Nydahl's closeness to right-wing populist politicians like Geert Wilders and the Danish Pegida. In addition, the statements Nydahl made about Islam are not compatible with the basic principles of the DBU. In June 2019, the Diamond Way leaves the umbrella organization of Western Buddhists in Germany, the German Buddhist Union , in order to forestall an expulsion. The DBU justifies its exclusion procedure with racist, sexist and violent statements by Nydahl
