Thaye Dorje (Trinley Thaye Dorje, Tib. : 'Phrin las mtha' yas rdo rje ; * 6. May 1983 , Lhasa , Tibet ) is next Ugyen Trinley Dorje one of the two officially enthroned 17th  Gyalwa Karmapa of the Karma Kagyu -School of Tibetan Buddhism .

biography

Thaye Dorje was born as Tendzin Khyentse. He is the first son of the third Mipham Rinpoche, an important Nyingma master. His mother, Dechen Wangmo, comes from a noble family that can be traced back to the legendary King Ling Gesar .

He was officially recognized by the 14th Künsig Shamar Rinpoche, Mipham Chökyi Lodrö , the second highest teacher within the Karma Kagyu tradition, as the rebirth of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje (1924-1981), and received the name Karmapa from him Trinle Thaye Dorje. The Karmapas are considered to be Tibet's great yogis and are among the most famous personalities of Buddhism in Tibet. The reincarnation line of their tulkus goes back over 900 years and is older than that of the Dalai Lama . The late 16th Karmapa was not only one of the most influential Buddhist masters of his time, but was also instrumental in spreading the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism in the West.

After fleeing Tibet together with his family in 1994, he found a new home in India. In the same year he was presented to the public by Künsig Shamarpa at the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in New Delhi. As a result, he went through an intensive training in Buddhist sutras and tantras under numerous well-known teachers in New Delhi and at the Shri Diwakar Vihara Buddhist Research and Education Institute in Kalimpong, Northern India. His lamas are or were u. a. Künsig Shamarpa Mipham Chökyi Lodrö , Chobgye Trichen Rinpoche , Lüding Khenchen Rinpoche , Khenchen Trinle Paljor Rinpoche and Pewar Rinpoche Chime Dorje. He received and continues to receive his philosophical training from masters such as Prof. Gen Sempa Dorje, the late Topga Rinpoche and Khenpo Chödrak Rinpoche. In 2003 Künsig Shamarpa awarded him the title of Vidhyadhara, which formally announced the end of his training. The Karmapa Charitable Trust also officially declared him the legal heir of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa in 2006.

Today he lives, learns and teaches most of the time in his headquarters, the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute . In the meantime he travels widely and continues the activity of his predecessor around the world. Over 800 Buddhist centers and monasteries of the Karma Kagyu lineage in 60 countries regard the 17th Karmapa Thaye Dorje as their spiritual leader. This includes the numerically large Diamond Way organization of Lama Ole Nydahl , the centers of the Dhagpo Kagyu Mandala and the centers of the Bodhi Path organization.

On March 25, 2017, Thaye Dorje married his childhood friend Rinchen Yangzom.

Their first son was born in August 2018.
