Düsum Khyenpa
Düsum Khyenpa (pronounced: [ tʰysum cʰeⁿpa ]; Tibetan དུས་ གསུམ་ མཁྱེན་པ་; Wylie transliteration dus gsum mkhyen pa ; born 1110 in Eastern Tibet ; died 1193 ) is the first lama in the incarnation series of the Karmapas and founder of the Tibetan Buddhist order Karma-Kagyu .
Life
Düsum Khyenpa became a monk at the age of 20 . He studied with well-known masters of his time, including Chapa Chökyi Sengge (1109–1169), a logician , and Patsab Lotsawa Nyima Drakpa (1055–?), Who translated many Madhyamaka texts into Tibetan and was a master of the Prasangika-Madhyamaka philosophy.
At the age of 30 he became a student of Gampopas . He followed the lineage of the Kadampa and studied the sutras , which is considered particularly important in the Karma Kagyu. In addition, he received teachings from Rechungpa and other students of Milarepa .
At the age of 55 (1164) he founded the monastery Kampo Nenang ( kam po gnas nang ) in Kampo ( Kham ), at 60 (1169) the Panphuk monastery in Litang (Kham). At 76 (1185) he founded an important seat of the Karma-Kagyu at Karma Gön . At the age of 80 (1189) his head office was Tsurphu . He left his high school student Drogon Rechen (1148-1218) clues on the basis of which he found the second Karmapa Karma Pakshi after his death . He also made Drogon Rechen a lineage holder of the Karma Kagyu school. Düsum Khyenpa died at the age of 84. Successors were Drogon Rechen and Pomdrakpa (1170-1249).
Other students were Taklung Tashi Pal, founder of Taklung-Kagyu , Tsangpa Gyara, founder of Drukpa-Kagyu, and Khadampa Deshek, founder of Katok Nyingma .
