Changchub Dorje ( Tib .: byang chub rdo rje ; * 1703 in Derge ; † 1732 ) was the 12th Karmapa of the Karma Kagyü School of Tibetan Buddhism .

biography

In accordance with the letter from his predecessor Changchub Dorje was in the province of Derge, Eastern Tibet , found . He was brought to Karma Gompa by Chökyi Döndrubs (1695-1732; 8th Shamarpa ) search party and recognized by him there. Changchub Dorje studied under many well-known masters of his time. He also gave teachings of the Kagyu lineage to the master of the Kathog Nyingma at the time and received Nyingma teachings from him . Due to the difficult political conditions after the death of the 6th Dalai Lama , Changchub Dorje left Tibet and made a pilgrimage to India and accompanied by the 7th Goshri Gyeltshab Rinpoche Könchog Öser (1699–1765), the 8th Shamarpa and the 8th Tai Situpa Nepal . In Nepal they were highly honored by the then king, and in India they visited the holy places of Buddha Shakyamuni . After his return to Tibet under the 7th Dalai Lama , he received an invitation to China ( Yongzheng ). He accepted and set off with Shamarpa on the journey. Since the political situation was still difficult and he suspected his imminent death, he sent a letter to the 8th Tai Situpa with predictions about his next birth. Changchub Dorje (29) and Chökyi Döndrub (37) died of smallpox on the trip to China . The main lineage holder of the Karma Kagyu was Chökyi Chungne (1700–1774; 8th Tai Situpa).
