Yeshe Dorje ( Tib .: ye shes rdo rje ; * 1676 in smar khams rdzong ; † 1702 ) was the 11th Karmapa of the Karma Kagyü School of Tibetan Buddhism .

biography

The predictions Chöying Dorje was accordingly Yeshe Dorje in Mayshö region in eastern Tibet born. The 7th Shamarpa Yeshe Nyingpo (1631–1694) and the 6th Goshri Gyeltshab Rinpoche Norbu Sangpo (1660–1698) recognized him as the eleventh Karmapa. He was taken to Yangpachen , the headquarters of the Shamarpas, and then enthroned in Tshurphu . Yeshe Nyingpo taught him the tradition of Karma Kagyu. He also received lessons from the treasure hunters Yonge Mingyur Dorje and Taksham Nüden Dorje (also: Samten Lingpa ). This fulfilled a prophecy of Padmasambhava , according to which the eleventh Karmapa should also keep certain lines of terma.

Yeshe Dorje had the Tshurphu Monastery renovated, which had been sacked by the Mongol army. One of his students was Treho Rinpoche , regent of the 5th Dalai Lama , who tried to encourage an end to sectarian movements in Tibetan Buddhism.

Yeshe Dorje recognized Pelchen Chökyi Döndrub (1695-1732) as the 8th Shamarpa, who was also the next lineage holder of the Karma-Kagyu. In his short life (26) Yeshe Dorje mastered the teachings of the Kagyu and also that of the Nyingma . Before he died he left a detailed letter with information about his next birth, which he gave to Pelchen Chökyi Döndrub.
