Dick Sargent

Dick Sargent (born April 19, 1930 as Richard Stanford Cox in Carmel-by-the-Sea , California , † July 8, 1994 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor .

Life

Sargent was best known for his role as Darrin Stephens in the television series In Love with a Witch .

Sargent had his first film roles in 1956. When Dick York was forced to leave the series In Love with a Witch in 1969 for health reasons , Sargent received his role as Darrin Stephens . He had already been offered the role in 1964, but at the time he was under contract with Universal Studios and therefore could not accept the offer. At this point, his efforts were on the short-lived sitcom The Horizontal Lieutenant . He played the role of Darrin Stephens until the series ended in 1972.

He then continued to star in films and had some guest appearances on television series such as Jack of Hearts with Two Ladies , The Waltons , Charlie's Angels , Under the California Sun , Family Ties and two episodes of A Duke Seldom Comes Alone .

Sargent came out late, but then supported the fight for gay rights. He had long hushed up his sexual orientation by pretending to be in a relationship with lesbian actress Fannie Flagg . His longtime partner was Albert Williams.

He died of prostate cancer at the age of 64.
