The 24th Army / Army High Command 24 (AOK 24) was a command authority of the Army of the Wehrmacht during the Second World War .
history

The 24th Army was deployed on the Swiss border in October 1944 . It was from the Territorial Staff of the military district commands V formed. Apart from Reconnaissance Staff 8, it was not subordinate to any of its own units from February to April 1945. From March 1945 the 24th Army was known as "Fortress Alpen" (→ Alpenfestung ) and was temporarily subordinate to the 19th Army . The 19th Army was also an association with little more than division strength . They were made up of troops from headquarters , which were replenished with units from the Volkssturm and border security battalions. The 24th Army had the task of preventing a possible advance of the Allies over neutral Switzerland. It did not get beyond the stage of a pure rump force and surrendered in May 1945.
