The Dicke Turm zu Niederlauer is a watch tower in Niederlauer ( Rhön-Grabfeld district ) near the Franconian Saale, southwest of the village. It belongs to the striking row of waiting towers between the Rhön and the grave field .

construction

The 11.6 m high watchtower is, like most of the other watchtowers in the area, a tower made of field stones. It is accessible with a widening in the upper part. A steel spiral staircase leads to an approximately 10.4 m high viewing platform , which is surrounded by a parapet with battlements.

Art near the tower

Parts of the Berlin Wall have been erected near the tower . There are also works of art by Jimmy Fell, such as a blue glass sculpture that is supposed to commemorate the fallen of the First World War, or two “gates” made of steel or glass with the addition “We are the people”.
