The Tower Hill Rappershausen even Turmhügelburg Keller called, is a Outbound early medieval motte (Motte) in the hallway castle cellar, south of Rappershausen , a suburb of Hendungen in the district of Rhön-grave field ( Bayern ).

description

The castle stable , which is still clearly recognizable and located about 50 meters east of the medieval desert of Uttenhausen , is probably an early medieval moth .

The Burgstall is located on a natural, south-sloping embankment of a valley basin. The hill is secured on its north and east side by a right-angled and still up to 20 meters wide and two to three meters deep neck trench against the level, which is about the same height and slightly higher. The excavation was obviously used to raise the castle stable, it is above the level of the plain. In the south and west, the existing six and four meter high embankments of the sloping terrain were artificially made steeper, the remains of trenches are not recognizable there.

The plateau of the tower hill is roughly rectangular and measures 22 meters from west to east, its north-south diameter is 19 meters. In the middle of the actual castle stable there is a depression on which numerous stones and some broken bricks can be seen. However, in this area - probably caused by illegal deposits in the lower area of the castle stables - there is also occasional residual mineral waste.

It seems reasonable to assume that the moth's tower was lost in the area of the depression.

Lore

A local legend settles the story of the Virgin in the Burgstadel here . According to the legend, a young lady lived in the castle, who did not interrupt her work even on holy Sundays. Since she desecrated Sunday in this way, she had to go around the castle after her death. Even when the Burgstadel was completely in ruins, it was up to mischief in the witching hour and frightened nocturnal hikers.
