The Discovery of Currywurst is a feature film from 2008 based on the novel of the same name by Uwe Timm , directed by Ulla Wagner with Barbara Sukowa and Alexander Khuon in the leading roles.

Lena Brücker lives in Hamburg during the Second World War . During a bomb attack, she happened to meet the soldier Hermann Bremer, who was on home leave . She gives him shelter for the night and asks him to stay the next morning, which he does, which makes him deserted . He has to keep hiding all the time and she keeps the end of the war from him. One day she can no longer hide the truth, and he leaves her that same day.

Difference from the book

The film is mainly about the relationship between Lena Brücker and Hermann Bremer. The book has a framework story in which the narrator met Lena Brücker as a boy in the 1950s, and then visits her in the present and lets the story be told by her directly.
