Branko Samarovski (born July 9, 1939 in Zemun , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ) is an Austrian actor . He is a member of the Vienna Burgtheater .

Life

Up to the age of five he grew up in the Danube Swabian district of Franztal von Zemlin (today's Serbia); from there escape to Mondsee in Upper Austria . At the age of 14 he began an apprenticeship as a locksmith in Salzburg . In addition to working as a locksmith, he played on the theater for lovers under the high altar of the suburban church of St. Elisabeth in Salzburg . He took private acting lessons from the director of the Liebhaberbühne Georges Müller and finally came to the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he completed his acting training.

Samarovski's first and only audition took him to the Vereinigte Bühnen Graz in 1966 . Further theater stations: 1971/72 Darmstadt . From 1972 he was brought to Stuttgart by Hans Peter Doll . From 1979 he went to the Schauspielhaus Bochum with Claus Peymann . In 1985 he was called to the Schaubühne Berlin . He worked with Peter Stein , George Tabori , Andrea Breth and Jürgen Gosch , among others . Since 1991 he has been engaged at the Vienna Burgtheater. In 2006 he was portrayed by the artist Christy Astuy for the new portrait gallery in the Burgtheater.

He has worked in numerous film and television productions, including Herbert Achternbusch's The Young Monk (1978) and several times for Michael Haneke . For the portrayal of the invalid in Haneke's film adaptation of Die Rebellion (1993), he received the Golden Cadre awarded by the Association of Austrian Cinematographers . When Austrian Film Awards in 2017 , he was named best actor in a supporting role, in Kai Wessels fog in August , excellent.
