action

Günther Kuballa has been unemployed for months, as has his best friend Wolfgang Krettek. There is little prospect that their situation will ever improve. Wolfgang is a trained gentleman's outfitter and is doing his best to find a job again - regardless of the industry. Accordingly, he constantly attends new training courses, which ultimately do not bring him any success. Günther is less committed and is constantly on a confrontational course with his responsible clerk in the employment office. He was a zoo keeper all his life and only wants to earn his living in the zoo with his beloved seals. After he is obliged by the employment office to take part in further training and breaks it off, his ALG II is also reduced. In this apparently hopeless situation, Günther meets his neighbor Hermann, who is suffering from dementia , and who is quite annoyed with his confusion. Nevertheless, he takes care of him when one day he is quite helpless on the street and cannot find his way home. Günther takes him to his apartment and by chance finds a large sum of cash there, which Hermann has lost all memory of. So Günther sees his chance come and secretly takes the money. He tells Wolfgang about his find, which he intends to share with him. However, Wolfgang has scruples about stealing from the old man. But when he convinces himself that Hermann really doesn't remember anything about his savings, he isn't averse to keeping the money either. But he thinks that Hermann should also have something from the “treasure”. So they agree to look at the money for some kind of salary and to wash, clean and tidy up for their neighbor. And so the two friends lend a hand and now feel they are the rightful owners of the 150,000 euros and spend it with full hands. First of all, Günther borrows a snappy sports car, because a purchase would have made the employment office suspicious. Together with Wolfgang, he treats himself to the best schnitzel from the Ruhr area and also brings Hermann a portion that the two of them still do not forget and continue to supply. Günther even takes him to the zoo, where he loses sight of him and only finds him after hours.

But with wealth comes unpleasantness. The first disagreements arise when Günther, without asking Wolfgang, spends a large part of the money on renovating the seal pool in the zoo and hopes to be able to work there again. Wolfgang, on the other hand, has problems explaining to his wife how he surprisingly managed to take her to an elegant restaurant. The only excuse that comes to mind is that he is the bank robber who is up to mischief in the city. He enjoys the new reputation that he gets back as a "whole guy" with her. This role pushes him to even let Günther give himself a grazing shot because the media reported that the bank robber was shot in his last robbery.

Problems arise for the care of Hermann when Günther actually manages to get his job back as a zoo keeper at short notice and he cannot look after the old man during the day. Wolfgang is firmly anchored in his family so that he too cannot step in. Accordingly, complications arise and Hermann has to be taken to hospital as an emergency. There they are convinced that the old man can no longer be left alone in the future and will have to go to a nursing home. To do this, however, he would need a little equity and so Günther is determined to give Hermann the remaining money back. Inevitably, Wolfgang sees this too and admits to his wife that he is not a bank robber and that they owe their new wealth to their neighbor. Just as they are about to take Hermann's money to the bank to open an account for him, another robbery happens. Worried about losing the money now, Günther pounced on the bank robber and overwhelmed him. In gratitude, the two “heroes of the city” are presented with a check for 15,000 euros. However, that doesn't stop Günther and Wolfgang from continuing to look after Hermann, who now lives in an old people's home and is regularly visited by them there.

Reviews

"Comedy based in the Ruhr area about the seduction of actually good-natured people."

“Two unemployed people and one person with dementia give their lives a new meaning. A schnitzel for three is a film about friendship, which tells of great frustration and small happiness, which is inspired by motherhood and a deep moral. The Ruhrpott comedy dispenses with punch lines and verbal gags. The characters don't have the joke, but a sense of reality on their tongues and the actors shine with brilliant timing. "
