action

Luke Vaughn works in a casino . His daughter is in a hospital, unable to pay the medical bills and needs another $ 300,000 for an operation. Vaughn desperately turns to "The Pope", the head of the casino, with a request for a loan, which "The Pope" refuses. When Vaughn insists and does not want to leave, he is fired by "The Pope" and beaten out by his henchman "Dog".

Vaughn and a security officer rob the casino. After the attack and a loot of 3 million dollars, the masked robbers are intercepted by the henchmen of the "Dog". One of the robbers is injured in a firefight and the driver of the getaway car drives away in a panic after the shooting. So the robbers try to kidnap city bus 657. Policewoman Kris Bajos, whose car is parked not far from the bus stop, hears the gunshots from the bus, gives up the chase and calls for reinforcements. The police chief then orders roadblocks.

"The Pope" orders "Dog" to get the money back. Meanwhile, Cox wants to shoot the policewoman Kris, but is prevented from doing so by Vaughn. Vaughn writes a passenger's phone number on a bus window to allow contact with the police. He warns Kris that if the police don't clear the roadblocks, Cox will kill passengers. Kris obeys, and Vaughn orders the bus driver to ram the roadblock so the bus can enter the freeway. Vaughn asks one of the passengers, a vet student, to take care of the injured man. Cox orders Bernie to drive to Galveston , Texas . Since the bus is running out of fuel, Vaughn requests a tanker.

Detective Marconi teams up with Kris when she is about to be suspended for disobeying an order. Marconi uses a police helicopter to monitor the bus. Cox calls Jono, an old man who helped them plan the robbery, and informs Jono that they have the money and are on their way. While refueling, Vaughn releases two hostages (Pauline and a young boy). Kris discovers that Vaughn pulled off the robbery because of his sick daughter. Meanwhile, "Dog" learns Jono's position via a police radio scanner.

As the wounded thief is suffering from blood loss, Vaughn calls Marconi to get on the bus with emergency medical equipment. He gets in and takes a call from "The Pope", throws the phone at Vaughn, and reveals his affiliation with "The Pope". Shortly thereafter, a SWAT team attacked the bus and blew the bus tire, causing it to come to a halt near a bridge. Most of the passengers are easily injured.

While the police surround the bus, Cox holds Bernie hostage to the bus window and threatens to shoot him in front of the live television. Marconi doesn't believe in it and wants to storm the bus. Bernie is then believed to be shot by Cox, but it is revealed that Vaughn shot his partner Cox to save Bernie instead. Vaughn receives a call from his daughter that the money has arrived to pay the hospital bills. Vaughn releases all the hostages and the bus departs as soon as the tires are fixed. Police follow the bus but discover that Vaughn has escaped and only Bernie is inside.

Vaughn arrives at Jono's but quickly finds out that “Dog” killed him. "Dog" captures Vaughn by incapacitating him with a shot of rock salt from a shotgun and "The Pope" and Marconi are back on the bus. When Marconi wants to get out, "The Pope" shoots him. Vaughn shows them where the remaining $ 2.7 million is hidden on the bus and then explains that Pauline was not a pregnant passenger, but rather his sister, who hid the missing $ 300,000 in her "belly". Kris had deduced what Pauline was doing and hadn't stopped her from paying the medical bill. “Dog” is furious and about to burn Vaughn alive. He threatens to pursue Vaughn's daughter next when “The Pope” suddenly shoots “Dog”. A grateful Vaughn is allowed to escape. "The Pope" is waiting on the bus, lighting a cigarette when the police arrive.
