The Party for francs (Brief description: THE FRANKS - in the press also francs party called) is a German regional party . It was founded on October 31, 2009 in the Klosterbräu Bamberg .

Programmatic orientation

The party advocates an economic strengthening of Franconia within Bavaria, Germany and Europe. She criticizes a north-south divide in Bavaria, since more companies have settled in southern Bavaria than in Franconia and the per capita income is much lower in the north.

A break away from the Free State of Bavaria and the formation of a "Federal State of Franconia" is not a goal of the party, unless a general reorganization of the federal states is pending. DIE FRANKEN support the amalgamation of the three administrative districts of Franconia into one district within Bavaria. In the event of Bavaria's potential exit from the Federal Republic, the party demands that the franc remain with Germany.

The party supports the introduction of a minimum wage , rejects the quota for women and is against ACTA . Furthermore, the party calls for local generation of renewable energies and supports the resistance to the construction of high-voltage transmission lines . Especially for Franconian areas, the party is demanding pre-financing of infrastructure measures by the Free State.

In addition, the demand for the abolition of tuition fees was raised and the popular initiative “No to tuition fees in Bavaria” was supported. The referendum was accepted unchanged by the Bavarian state parliament. Most recently, DIE FRANKEN also successfully supported the biodiversity referendum.

The website sums up the objective: "The time is ripe for a bourgeois Franconian people's party". Attention is drawn to the membership in the Alliance against Right-Wing Extremism in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region.

elections

The party ran for the state election in September 2013 in the three Franconian constituencies . In the state elections, the party achieved 2.9 % of the total vote in Upper Franconia, 2.3% in Middle Franconia and 1.6% in Lower Franconia . In terms of Swiss francs, the result was 2.2%. For the whole of Bavaria this was 0.7% of the vote. In the district elections on the same day, the party in Upper and Middle Franconia entered the district assembly with one representative each . The Upper Franconian district council joined the SPD in 2015, so that the party is only represented in the district council of Middle Franconia.

The party ran in the local elections in Bavaria 2014 in Feucht , Hof and Roth . In Feucht it reached 4.8% and a municipal council seat, in Hof 5.5% and two seats in the city council and in Roth 4.4% and one seat.

In the state elections in 2018 , the party only competed in Central and Lower Franconia. It lost compared to 2013 and came to 1.1% of the vote in Middle Franconia and 0.8% in Lower Franconia. Throughout Bavaria, Die Franken received 0.2% of the vote. The party was able to defend its seat in the Central Franconian district assembly with a result of 1.48% of the vote. In Upper (1.11%) and Lower Franconia (0.99%) it could not move into the district assembly.

In the local elections in 2020 , Die Franken ran in the municipalities in which they were already represented and were re-elected to their councils. In Hof, the party suffered significant losses (1.7% instead of 5.5% in 2014), but received a city council mandate.

Membership and organization

When the party was founded in October 2009, it had about 52 members. By August 2014, the number of members rose to around 304. The party is organized into three district associations ( Middle Franconia , Upper Franconia and Lower Franconia ), nine district associations (newest district association: Erlangen / Erlangen-Höchstadt) and several local associations (newest local association: Bayreuth ), in particular in the Municipalities in which she has been represented on the municipal council since May 2014.

Since the summer of 2017, the statutes have provided for the possibility of establishing regional associations outside of Bavaria. The establishment of such an association is planned in southern Thuringia , which the party calls Henneberg-Franconia .

Party newspaper

The party newspaper “Franken im Blick” appears around twice a year and is sent to members and distributed at information stands. This newspaper was first published in 2012 and currently (2019) has a circulation of 5000 copies.
