Oklahoma in 1906: Teacher Catherine Allen meets businessman Jim Gardner and cowboy Dan Somers. Gardner drills for oil regardless of the indigenous Indians and settlers. Somers is hired by Gardner as an employee. Since Somers has better relations both with the Indians and with Washington, he boots Gardner and takes over the oil drilling on his own. Gardner sabotages Somer's venture as much as he can, but ultimately has to bow to Somer's assertiveness. Somers also has the upper hand in the rivalry over Catherine Allen.
