The Knickerbocker Gang: The Talking Grave is a children's film from 1994, based on the children's book series The Knickerbocker Gang by the Austrian author Thomas Brezina .

content

The four friends Lilo, Axel, Poppi and Dominik are the Knickerbocker gang that has had adventures not only in their home country Austria, but all over the world.

In Vienna , the youngest gang member, 10-year-old Poppi, wants to prove her courage by crossing the Vienna Central Cemetery at night . She discovers a figure wrapped in a black cloak who is going to the grave of the magician Rudolfo Conté. There the grave speaks to the mysterious - but Poppi bothers him and so he has to flee.

In the coming days the young actor Dominik is rehearsing a new musical and falls in love with the leading actress Melissa, who is assassinated.

The four friends find each other in an exciting new detective adventure.

A few days later, Melissa, rescued thanks to the four friends, stands in front of the gang's headquarters and explains to them that she is the figure in the cemetery. An anonymous letter had asked her to come to the cemetery on her 18th birthday. Rudolfo Conté is her late father.

In addition, the US-based actress Annie Kramer, Melissa's mother, appears in Vienna. She too has received a letter stating that she has to come to the cemetery.

background

The film, shot in Vienna and the surrounding area, was the first attempt to give the popular children's book series a cinematic implementation.

Although only "Axel" actor Mathias Rothammer came from Austria - the other three were cast in Great Britain - both the locations and the international cast were a win for Austrian tourism .

Spin-off

In 1995/1996, ORF produced the 14-part TV series Die Knickerbocker-Gang .

Soundtrack as CD

The soundtrack with the title song Friends Forever and the rap song Riesenlied - Giant Song from the film was released on CD. There is also a book on the film that Neue Breitschopf-Verlag published in 1995 ( ISBN 3-7004-3545-2 ).
